ENGLISH CLUB - "Life is brief... so it better be damn good, it better be worth it". (Steve Jobs)
Objective:
To create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere to speak English, hear English, learn English and discover new, interesting topics among English speaking natives.
Method:
Every month, each person will have the chance to discuss their own personal experience or feelings regarding one or two particular subjects or topics.
The topics will not require any prior preparation on the part of the participants, however the topics will be sent to all participants ahead of time so that they may begin thinking about them.
There will be plenty of chance for lively discussion and interaction.
House Keeping Items:
English Club will meet EVERY SECOND TUESDAY at 7:30 PM in Kansas, bar/coffee.
Consistency will be important to make this work for everyone.
We will maintain this schedule with NO changes until further notice.
We will send out email reminders to the Group with the month’s topics one week before each meeting.
Remember:
The idea is to keep it simple; Always the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM and keep it FUN!!

7.30pm
Join us! Do not miss it! It is going to be fun!!!
Hi, guys!!!
ResponderEliminarWe did have a great time in our First Meeting!!!
Our first Native guest was RICHARD DENNISTON.
Richard Denniston was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the northeast of the U.S. He studied Animal Science at Pennsylvania State University and following graduation he worked in a bovine embryo transfer (ET) laboratory in northern Virginia. After 2 years he moved to New Mexico where he directed a large scale ET program at a commercial dairy. Four years later he moved from the desert of New Mexico to the swamps of Louisiana where he accepted a position as a Research Associate at Louisiana State University (LSU). While at LSU he completed an MS and an MBA and spent 20 years on the faculty in the Department of Animal Science’s, Reproductive Biology Center. In 1996 he met a young Argentine girl that was doing a Masters degree at LSU. In 2000 they married in Open Door, Buenos Aires Province and returned to the U.S. where Marina completed a PhD and a Post Doc. In 2005 their first son, Tomás was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. In 2006 they moved to Argentina and built a house in Los Lagartos and in 2010 Lucas was born at the esteemed University Austral Hospital. Marina is now on the faculty (conicet) of UCA and is developing a program in assisted reproductive technologies and Richard is working with his brother in law as a developer, building apartment buildings in Capital.
This is just a summary of what Richard shared with us about his personal background.
We spent almost 2 hours and a half listening to Richard's experiences, as well as interacting and learning about his experience as a native American living in Argentina.
It was a great meeting!
You are welcome to join us next month, second Tuesday, same time and place.
DO NOT MISS IT! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
ResponderEliminarThese are the three IDIOMS we have learnt from Richard's:
1.- "I might of got off the boat at night, but it wasn't last night"
If someone is just off the boat, they are naive and inexperienced.
------------------------------------------------
2.- "You can't get blood out of a rock"
------------------------------------------------
3.- "Nip it in the bud"
If you nip something in the bud, you deal with a problem when it is still small, before it can grow into something serious.
I had a great time at the English Club meeting on August 14. Thanks to Iris for organizing this. It seemed like everyone else in attendance enjoyed it as well. It was fun to meet everyone and interact in a casual atmosphere. I look forward to the next "meeting" in Kansas on September 11. Remember, always 7:30 PM the second Tuesday of the month, and always at Kansas. Next meeting I hope to be able to eat more and talk less! Abrazo para todos, Richard

It was really funny and I had a great time during the last meeting! The food was so tasty! And the place was great! Also (but not less important) it was amazing to meet so many people with so much experience to share with us. I think it’s a great way of keep on learning and broadening our minds to new things. And of course, of having fun!!! I’d like to give thanks to Iris, who was the mastermind of the club, and to everyone who attended the meeting because it was a pleasure for me to know you And especially to Richard, who told us everything about his incredible life. You’re a “groso” Richard!!! I’m still waiting for your joke… jajaja
ResponderEliminarI’m really looking forward to the next meeting, I hope to be able to come and meet everybody again.

ResponderEliminarENGLISH CLUB NORTH: SECOND MEETING
Hi, Guys!!!
This is just a short note to remind you the NEXT ENGLISH CLUB MEETING, this coming TUESDAY 11th, same time, same place (7.30pm /
Kansas).
Our native guest will be "Karen Buck", she is American. She has a lot to share.
DO NOT MISS IT!!! It is going to be a lot of fun!
IMPORTANT:
The English Club is a place for language learners to use English in a casual setting. It is also a great way to make new lasting friendships as well as a great opportunity to be around English speaking natives. You will feel more comfortable using English around people you trust and have fun with.
Remember, the purpose of the club is to use English in a life-like situation.
